Europe standing with Ukraine - streaming
We were honoured to be part of a historic, high-security state visit event, when the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and the President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb discussed “Europe Standing with Ukraine” Moderated by Katri Makkonen in the main building of the University of Helsinki. The main organiser, the University of Helsinki, received a request from the Office of the President of the Republic to hold the event at less than a week’s notice, and only a few working days were available for the preparations.
The preparations for the production had to be made with particular care, taking into account, for example, the high security level, the restrictions on access to the venue, the possible need for national and international media to have access to the images and the different language soundtracks.
In advance, there was no full certainty about the details of the event, such as the language the presidents would use. The timetable also changed on the fly, even on the day of the event, and there was no certainty at the start of the event as to whether, for example, there would be time to include questions from the public in the programme.
We simultaneously streamed the live broadcast in three different language versions: the speech as it was spoken at the event, and simultaneous interpretation in English and Ukrainian.
At the same time, live voice-overs for each stream had to be made during each speech to ensure that all language versions were accompanied by an appropriate proportion of spoken language and/or interpretation. The event was the number one news story worldwide, and so the stream was widely distributed on the day of the event on the websites of major news media around the world. was widely distributed on the day of the event on the websites of major news media around the world.
The event and the streaming were a great success, and we received widespread praise for the production from our partners and others who attended the event.
